BISMARCK, N.D. - The Heavens Helpers Soup Cafe is in need of volunteers and donations.
Executive director Mark Meier says they're averaging about 200 people a day coming in to eat, and need about 25 volunteers on those days. He says it’s tough when volunteers cancel or don't show up. Meier says while winter can sometimes be slower, so far that hasn't happened this year.
“It stabilizes over winter believe it or not, it’s busier from the spring to the fall than the dead of winter but so far it hasn’t really dropped off, it’s just stabilized,” Meier said.
The soup cafe is just starting phase two of its renovation project, and will be adding meeting rooms, showers, and washers and dryers. They're hoping to have construction done in the spring, but that will also depend on how many volunteers they have to help.
