A Bismarck group is going before the park board on December 19th to propose renaming Custer Park.

Organizers say the park, named after George Armstrong Custer, is inconsiderate and culturally insensitive.

"History will still be there, we're not trying to erase history, we're trying to make history together in the Bismarck community going forward," said Ali Quarne, with Rename Custer Park.

Custer Park was developed in 1910 and is Bismarck's first municipal park. Quarne says they have three sample names for the Bismarck Parks and Recreational Board: Unity Park, Eagle Park and Harmony Park. But are open to other changes as well.

The Park board will meet December 19th at the city-county building.
