BISMARCK, N.D. - There's a new proposal in the works to help beautify downtown Bismarck.
Wet Plate Artist Shane Balkowitsch has proposed to the Renaissance Zone Authority to install a mural of Greta Thunberg on the south side of the Brick Oven Bakery Building.
Brick Oven Bakery's owners say they don't own the building and have no say in the possible artwork outside.
According to the Renaissance Zone Authority agenda, the mural would portray Balkowitsch's "Standing for Us All" image of Thunberg taken at Standing Rock.
The mural would stand seven and a half feet tall and over five feet wide. Balkowitsch wants to install it in the Spring.
"The idea is to just share art with the downtown. To beautify an ally. There's nothing specific in that ally right now. It's nothing more than an ally and this'll be my third installation in the city," Balkowitsch says.
The Renaissance zone is meeting Thursday to discuss the mural further.
Balkowitsch grew up in Bismarck and says it's a huge honor to benefit the city through his art.
His work is curated in 21 different archives around the world, including the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress.
Balkowitsch also has murals behind Toasted Frog and on the Capital Gallery.
Balkowitsch would be paying for the mural himself.
