Great Plains Food Bank one step closer to opening in Bismarck
Over the last four years, Great Plains has been raising money for a three-fold project.
Their goal is to expand their services and projects, update the Fargo Warehouse, and obtain a Bismarck facility.
The cost of a new Bismarck center is $1.49 million. With the help of the American Bank Center, Great Plains is now able to meet that goal.
Management says they have plans to open the new facility in Bismarck by 2020.
All three legs of the project serve to meet one goal.
"We wanted to provide 10 million more meals annually by 2021. So, this facility, which the American Bank Center is helping us get up and running with their very generous gift, is going to help us reach that goal probably sooner than 2021," says Great Plains Major Gifts Officer Ron Walters.
The Bismarck center will feature a volunteer engagement center to help recover food in bulk, community room to meet with partners, office space and a large parking lot to host events.
Walters says the facility will help expand operations in the western part of the state.
He says they plan to announce the location of the center in the near future.
