MINOT, N.D. - A Good Samaritan showed the true spirit of the holiday season for some of their fellow shoppers in Minot Monday night, helping to pay for a family’s Christmas gifts.

In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Beth Jarnegan says she was shopping at Walmart with her family.

She says in the post they explained to their six-year-old son they could not buy him a toy due to some recent major expenses, and that “maybe we could write the big dude in red a letter asking for it.”

A woman overheard their conversation with the boy, asked him if he believed in Santa, handed the boy some money for his toy, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

She says the woman then gave him more money so his four-year-old sister could get a gift as well.

The woman’s exact identity isn’t clear, though Beth referred to her as “Sheryl.”

She says the woman posed for a photo with the two kids.

“If you know her please let her know my kids are still in awe that they actually met a real elf and we are so grateful for the love and the real spirit of Christmas that she showed us tonight” wrote Beth.
