Giving Hearts Day concluded Thursday night, but the impact of the community's donations will be lasting.
More than 34,000 donors gave to 500 charities across North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota for this year's Giving Hearts Day.
The non-profits raised $3 million more dollars this year than they did last year, with the grand total equaling over $19 million.
From hospitals to schools to dance studios, programs in the area will benefit greatly from Thursday's donations.
“I and the giving hearts team are incredibly proud of our non-profit partners for doing amazing work in the community and making an incredible impact," said Amber DeKrey, a programs director for Giving Hearts Day.
Many surprise monetary gifts were given throughout the night, proving that the people in our region truly have generous hearts.
The Anne Carlsen Center was one of the big winners last night.
They raised just under $1.5 million and became the second charity in Giving Hearts Day history to surpass the $1 million in one day mark.
