GARRISON, N.D. - In August, the Garrison City Council voted to stop renewing its contract with the McLean County Sheriff to establish a police department.
The contract was going to cost more than a $160,000. A committee was organized to come up with hiring requirements and start planning the department. The city says they will advertise for applicants starting in November.
"For the money that we were paying it was probably easier for what we had. There's some benefits of having a city police officer because they will be focused more in the city of Garrison," said Paul Schlichting, City Council.
The committee is working to limit costs, including buying a used police cruiser from another department.
