Garrison preparing for new police department

GARRISON, N.D. - The Garrison City Council voted in August to stop renewing its contract with the McLean County Sheriff and start its own police department.

The city received three applications for the police chief position since it opened in November and the deadline is on December 10.

The committee will start reviewing the candidates.

"We have purchased a patrol car. We have the patrol car in Garrison. We have located a remedial, and radar, and stuff like that," said Paul Schlichting, city councilor.

The city is holding off on buying some of the equipment so the new police chief can give recommendations.
