BISMARCK, N.D. - The Game and Fish Department director, Terry Steinwand, says his office is changing how it handles potential state records.

He says the department will now have a two-week waiting period before officially recognizing a record.

This comes after Game and Fish announced Tom Volk caught a record walleye in the Heart River, before ruling he caught it illegally.

Volk denies foul-hooking the massive fish.

Game and Fish will still verify the weight by department personnel as soon as possible after the catch.
