WILLISTON, N.D. - For the first time ever, people in Williston are accepting the Brave the Shave challenge in their city this year.
More than $14,000 was raised, and 22 people either donated their hair or went all the way with a shave.
The moment was very special for participant Theressa Larsen-Christopherson, who lost her mom, aunt, and grandfather to cancer.
She says it brought back some tough memories.
"They showed me a picture of myself, and it reminded me of, well, I look like my mother when she lost her hair," Larsen-Christopherson said.
Larsen-Christopherson says it became an unexpected family affair when her son and grandson decided to shave their heads as well.
Organizers of the event say it was a better turnout than expected, and this will hopefully become a tradition like the one in Bismarck.
