Fire causes release at saltwater disposal near Stanley

STANLEY, N.D. – The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division says a fire Monday at a saltwater disposal well near Stanley caused an oil and brine release.

They say welding sparks caused a fire at the Stanley SWD #3 facility, roughly 12 miles north of Stanley.

Basic Energy Services says 3,500 barrels of brine and 200 barrels of oil spilled, and cleanup is underway.

State inspectors have been on site and are monitoring cleanup.
