FARGO, N.D. - Recreational marijuana may have failed on election night, but one legislator is starting the process of decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana.
Fargo Representative Shannon Roers Jones is working on decriminalizing possession small amounts of marijuana and plants, reducing the punishment to a fine. The amount would be anything less than an ounce and the fine would be about $200.
"They wouldn't continue to have a record and it wouldn't affect their ability to find housing or employment and obtain professional licenses into the future," said Rep. Shannon Roers Jones, R-Fargo.
Roers Jones says other legislators are interested in co-sponsoring the bill, but want to wait until they see a finished draft.
