Family Rescued after being stranded on a sandbar

BISMARCK, ND - Bismarck Rural Fire Department chief Michael Voigt says at least 3 people, one being a child, were stranded on a sandbar near the Missouri and Heart Rivers.

Voigt says he believes there are no injuries as the people refused medical treatment.

Voigt says other law enforcement told him the boat got away from the people while they were launching into the water.

Two swift water technicians and a boat operator went in the water to try and find the boat.

Voigt says around 12:10 this morning, his crews were able to see the boat. They were trying to anchor it so the boat wouldn't drift down river.

Morton County Sheriff's Office, Metro Area Ambulance, Bismarck City Fire Department and Central Dakota Communications also assisted in the call.
