DICKINSON, N.D. - Students in Dickinson took a time machine back to the late 1800s today to immerse themselves in the history of Ellis Island.
Dickinson High School gathered more than 400 students in the last year to produce an interactive project where visitors could learn and experience what it was like.
"4 out of 10 Americans can trace their ancestry through Ellis Island, and that's really high in this part of the country as well. And so we thought it was important for that," said Brian Ham, DHS Social Studies Department chair.
Ham says they will consider doing this project again moving forward.
He says the project came to life for many and showed kids education can be fun.
