A family of five was displaced by an early-Friday-morning fire in a neighborhood on the city’s southwest side, according to the Minot Fire Department.

Crews responded to reports of an attached garage on fire in the 2300 block of 19th Street SW just after 12:30 a.m.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames within 15 minutes, and the fire was completely out by just after 2 a.m. Capt. Aaron Peterson says a neighbor across the street called 9-1-1 and attempted to put out some of the flames with a garden hose before crews arrived on scene and put out the rest.

One person was taken to Trinity Hospital as a precaution, while the four others were set up in a temporary overnight shelter due to the smell of smoke in the home.

No one else was hurt. The damage is estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
