Dickinson Police Department training new K9

DICKINSON, N.D. - The Dickinson Police Department is breaking in a new member of the force.

One-year-old Kalo is a German Shepard/Malinois mix, but a full blooded DPD Officer.

“You never know until you start really working with them what they're capable of, but he shows a lot of signs that we look for in dogs. I think he'll turn out really good," said Officer Jayden Peters, Kalo's handler.
Kalo arrived from Slovakia two weeks ago. When he's trained, he'll be able to sniff out narcotics or capture suspects. Until then, Peters says Kalo will only chase you down to lick you.

“He's a big teddy bear. He's still a puppy so he's got a little energy," said Peters.

Kalo will have 14 weeks of training starting in February. Peters will take Kalo to Minnesota for the training and expects him to be ready for duty in June.
