ELGIN, N.D. - An elevator around since the early 1900s was demolished in Elgin Wednesday morning.

Your News Leader has learned the elevator hasn't been used for more than four years and the co-owners took it down.

“It has to come down because of liability issues,” said Co-owner, Jim Maier.

Maier says Gooseneck Implement’s is building next to where the elevator was and owners knew once that building was up it would be more difficult to demolish it.

Maier says he does have mixed feeling about the demolition.

The elevator was up and running since 1915. The Pahl family took over in 1972 and for more than two decades Maier partnered with them.

Maier says despite the elevator being down they’re still trading green and are business as usual.
