U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis is meeting with base officials at Minot Air Force Base Wednesday, as part of a tour of two nuclear-focused locations across the country, Minot and the Stratcom center in Omaha, Nebraska.
This is Sec. Mattis’ first visit to Minot Air Force Base since taking over under the Trump administration.
Mattis will tour facilities used to control and store the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
Minot Air Force Base is the only base in the country that houses two legs of the nuclear triad—the B-52 strategic bombers and the ICBMs.
Mattis will head to Omaha on Thursday before heading to Mexico on Friday.
