DAPL protester files lawsuit against Morton County after almost losing arm

MORTON COUNTY, N.D. - A Dakota Access Pipeline protester who nearly lost her arm during a protest at the Backwater Bridge on Nov. 21 has filed a lawsuit against Morton County and several other law enforcement officials.

The lawsuit filed by Sophia Wilansky of New York names Morton County, its sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier, Cass County sheriff Paul Laney, ND Highway Patrol Major Tom Iverson and a John Doe as defendants.

The suit says John Doe is an unknown officer who launched a munition at Wilanksy that exploded and nearly destroyed all her left forearm.

The suit asks that Wilansky be compensated with millions of dollars in damages.

Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier has denied that any explosive was used by law enforcement.
