MINOT, N.D. - The Minot city council voted to extend Tom Barry as City Manager for an extra five years.

The decision was made in a 6 to 1 vote. His term was supposed to expire on the 11th. He will stay on until August 2025.

The council also amended his severance from 6 to 12 months if he is fired without cause.

While most of the council agreed Barry leaving his position would interrupt some progress he is he making others said voting on the matter at this time was not the right approach.

“I support Tom; I support your family being here. I recognize the sacrifices you take Mr. Mayor I recognize that you make the decisions that you feel are in the best interest of the community, and on this I am going to just disagree. I think this has to be a better process, “ Alderman Straight said.

Barry has been serving as city manager since 2016.
