LINCOLN, N.D. - The community chipped in to help police find the owners of lost animals more quickly.
More than a dozen people in Lincoln gathered funds so the police department could purchase a microchip reader.
The chief of police says during the winter they find a lot of lost animals.
He says this device will help them find the home of the dogs quicker.
“Get on their phone, google it and get the information the need. I mean it's not just on the spot identification it’s real time resolution. That’s very important,” said Lincoln Police Chief Greg Leveling.
"If that might happen we want to know that we can get our pet home as fast as possible,” said the woman from Lincoln who helped fundraise, Jaci Bjornstad.
He says it's always great when police can have an extra tool in their tool box.
