Children held in domestic situation near NDSU campus reunited with mother

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - UPDATE: The Shelter in place has now been lifted. Fargo Police have re-opened roads. The suspect remains on the loose.

UPDATE: 2:40 a.m: Fargo Police say the children who were held hostage near the NDSU campus late Monday night have been reunited with their mother. SWAT is still processing the scene, and people in the neighborhood are being told to continue sheltering in place.

2:05 a.m. UPDATE: Police have just set off a flash bang at the scene of an armed stand-off near NDSU in north Fargo. Our Valley News Live photographer says she heard it just after 2 a.m., but there's no word yet if anyone has been taken into custody.

UPDATE as of 11:45 PM:

Fargo Police say 12 Ave. N is closed from Albrecht to University Drive. Please use alternate routes if you must travel to or from the area.

UPDATE as of 11:28 PM:

Fargo Police tell us the man is armed. The man may be a threat to the public, so police are asking people to stay away from the scene. Students are telling they don't expect the situation to be resolved for another three hours. The SWAT team is on the scene as well.

Fargo Police put the following information out via Twitter:

Shortly after 10 p.m. tonight, officers were dispatched to a verbal domestic outside a residence in the 1100 block of College Street. Officers arrived and spoke with both parties. The male ran away and entered the residence, locking himself inside.

We do know there are two young children inside. There is an active protection order in place between the male and female. The male is a known person to us and we have reason to believe he may be a threat to himself or others.

There’s a domestic situation Fargo police are investigating near North Dakota State University.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m. at 1131 College St across from the Farmhouse Fraternity, according to an alert sent by North Dakota State University Police.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.

Numerous police cars are at the scene on College St.
