MORTON COUNTY, N.D. - Court cases for the defendants linked to the Dakota Access Pipeline continue.
This week, protester and former congressional candidate Chase Iron Eyes appeared in court requesting discovery demands on communication between law enforcement and private security contractors.
Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier was on the stand Wednesday.
"Answered a lot of their questions with great authority and put some of that to rest. Private security and Morton County or the State of North Dakota we're not working together, we're not intermingled," said Morton County Public Information Officer Maxine Herr.
Herr says they have submitted things like logs from their tactical offices and a letter from the landowner that Iron Eyes trespassed on.
In a statement from Iron Eyes this week he said he is proud to stand on the front line of such a critical battle at a pivotal moment in history.
The hearing for Iron Eyes will be held in November.
