Case of bacterial meningitis confirmed in child on Minot Air Force Base

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE – Public Health on Minot Air Force Base has been notified by state health officials of a positive case of bacterial meningitis in a child.

According to the base’s official Facebook page, the child does not currently attend any Minot Air Force Base Youth and Child programs, such as family child care or the Child Development Center.

The child has been in her or his home, and those who have been in contact with the child have been identified and informed of protective actions.

The germs that cause the disease can be spread by close contact with saliva or respiratory secretions from one person to another.

Symptoms can include being slow or inactive, vomiting, and low appetite.

People are recommended to get vaccinated, as the most effective way to avoid the disease.
