RUGBY, N.D. – Pierce County Commissioners have signed off on a fire emergency and burn ban, effective immediately.
The ban includes recreational burning, garbage/pit burning, burning of farmland, cropland and/or ditches, and the use of fire to demolish structures when the state fire index is high, very high, or extreme and/or a ‘red flag’ warning is in effect.
The ban does not apply to grills or enclosed fire pits, but they must be at least 15 feet away from vegetation.
The ban is scheduled through Oct. 1.
Anyone who violates the ban could face up to 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.
