Brazil native sentenced in fatal drunk driving crash in Parshall

BISMARCK, N.D. – A woman from Brazil will serve just over three years in prison after investigators say she caused a fatal car crash in Parshall in 2016 while driving drunk.

Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced 24-year-old Bruna De Paula Cardoso on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Investigators say on Sept. 24, 2016, Cardoso crashed her car into an ‘end school zone’ sign and struck a tree.

The passenger in the car died in the crash.

Investigators say Cardoso’s blood-alcohol level was .130, and she was driving 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

She will serve three years of supervised probation and have to pay restitution.
