A body was pulled from a Burnt Creek channel on Wednesday evening after officers were called for a welfare check.
According to the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to Hoge Island northwest of Bismarck at about 6 p.m. after they received a report of a missing man.
They found an open spot of water which led them to believe the ice had cracked. The Swift Water Team was called in and a body was discovered in the water.
Officials say the man was in his late 60s to early 70s. His name will be released once an autopsy is completed.
The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Office, Bismarck Rural Fire Department and Metro Ambulance all responded to the scene.
