Bismarck's Northwoods Baseball Team gets nickname

BISMARCK, N.D. - One of the first big things on the to-do list for Bismarck's new Northwoods League Baseball Team was to get a nickname. And now they have one.

Fans cast over 1,200 votes to reach the final five choices, and the contest was trimmed to three: the Bullies, Flickertails or Meadowlarks.

"A name is an identity, right. It's the logo you're wearing on your shirt, and the logo on the hat that your son or daughter might be the first time you're wearing a baseball team logo. So it's really important to the brand of our team, and we have a lot of neat things in store at the ballpark. Not just the team name and logo, but to really make the ballpark reflect who we are, what we're about and our brand," says John Bollinger, Bismarck Northwoods League Baseball General Manager.

The Bismarck Northwoods League Baseball Team will be nicknamed the Bismarck Larks. The name was announced Thursday at Municipal Ballpark.

"It was a fun process looking through all of the entries. The final five all had meaning to the state of North Dakota, and we wanted the nickname to reflect that," says Bollinger.

Next on the agenda for the team is marketing.

"We have already have some season ticket and seven-game ticket packages sold. You see those fans down here today picking their seats," says Bollinger.

Bollinger wants to make sure the community is excited and involved as they begin the program.

"We have our office set up in Bismarck, and the fans will see us around town as the excitement builds to our first season next summer," says Bollinger.

The Larks also announced the signing of their first player Thursday night, Bismarck catcher Quinn Irey. And Shawn Repay was introduced as the Larks' Head Coach.

The Bismarck Northwoods League Baseball office is located at 303 West Front Avenue. For more information about the program and tickets visit
