UPDATE: Police release name of standoff suspect

UPDATE (7/17/18): The Bismarck Police Department has released the name of the man who barricaded himself in his home and took his own life Sunday evening.

Police say the name of the suspect is 59-year-old William Leam Peoples.

The Bismarck Police Department released more information on Sunday’s more than five-hour standoff in south Bismarck.

Police say the suspect is a 59-year-old Bismarck man who was found dead inside his home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers say the altercation was with a 44-year-old Bismarck man. The victim had gone to the suspect’s address to purchase a vehicle that the suspect had listed for sale.

BPD says the suspect fired his gun in the victim's direction.

Police have not specified who called 911, but say the victim did not report injuries.
