BISMARCK, N.D. - A 51-year-old Bismarck man has been arrested for theft after tools were taken from storage units in August.
Kevin Martin is charged with two counts of theft.
Prosecutors say Burleigh County deputies responded to a report of missing items in two storage units in Bismarck.
The owner of the units told deputies there was $26,267 of tools missing.
Deputies located a cigarette butt in the storage unit and sent it to the state crime lab for DNA testing.
In September, the crime lab identified Martin’s DNA on the cigarette.
Court documents show deputies went to question Martin and found him working on a car with multiple items that matched the stolen tools.
Deputies say Martin claimed he bought all the tools.
Upon further investigation, deputies located stolen items in Martin’s car and at a pawn shop in Bismarck.
Martin is being held on a $2,000 cash bond, and to have no contact with the victims.
