BISMARCK, N.D. - A phone scam has cost an elderly Bismarck couple $14,000.

The seniors followed instructions from a caller who pretended to be their grandson.

That caller said he was in jail and needed $4,000 for bond in Best Buy gift cards.

After sending the money, the couple was called two more times by the same caller asking for another $10,000.

The couple was able to cancel some of the payments once they found out their grandson wasn't in jail.
