Bismarck commission to discuss public art policy

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Bismarck City Commission will be discussing the city's public art policy at Tuesday night's meeting.

The city's strategic plan calls for the development of a comprehensive art plan. Commissioner Shawn Oban says that recent events in both Bismarck and Mandan have made this a topic to discuss sooner rather than later.

"Public art serves a crucial component to Bismarck's civic and cultural life, and so from my perspective it would be important to integrate a wide range of our artworks reflecting different artists' disciplines and points of view," said Oban.

Oban says he hopes to see the discussion lead to a policy that guides future use and maintenance of public art around the city.
