BISMARCK, N.D. - Bismarck city commissioners approved an additional $650,000 Wednesday for the fire and police departments for salaries and benefits.
Both departments are facing issues recruiting and retaining people. They're hoping the additional dollars will make them more competitive with agencies across the state.
“In order to recruit and retrain our people we have to be able to compete with everybody else in the state and this allows us to do that and we're very thankful for it,” said Chief Dave Draovitch, Bismarck police Department.
There will be a public hearing on the passage of the final budget in September.
