BISMARCK, N.D. - Ten people are running for Bismarck Public School Board this year.
This week we are highlighting Karl Lembke, who currently serves as president of the Bismarck school board.
Lembke is an insurance agent at Vaaler Insurance.
He has served on the BPS board for the past four years.
Lembke grew up here in the capital city, and went through the BPS school system.
His daughters attend Century High School and his son goes to University of North Dakota.
Lembke says his priorities if re-elected include: hiring a long-term superintendent, working on school safety and security, and looking at the need for expanding or adding elementary schools.
“Our population has leveled off for the time being, and that's given us some time to come up with the best ideas and the ideas that we're going to come back into the community and start discussing will be happening very soon,” said Lembke.
Lembke says his previous board experience combined with his open communication with the community make him a good candidate for re-election.
Elections are June 12.
