BISMARCK, N.D. - One of the Bismarck Police Department's K-9's is now a little more protected.
Mesa now has a new bulletproof and stab-proof vest.
The funds for the $2,000 piece of equipment were raised by the Elks Lodge. Her handler, BPD Officer Joey Benke, says she's already gotten used to the vest. He says it offers a little more peace of mind when she's helping the officers.
"You know she's out there to protect me and all of our officers,” said Benke. “So if she's got that extra protection and she's going into these unknown situations I mean we're definitely going to feel better.”
Bala, one of the other K9s in the department also has a similar vest. BPD's two new dogs will get vests once they are fully grown.
