Bismarck Police Department investigates fire hydrant theft after accident

BISMARCK, N.D. - Bismarck police are investigating the theft of a fire hydrant after a driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into it.

The driver was heading south on Ward Road near Tom O'Leary Park and lost control. He crashed into the hydrant and a fence and was ejected from his car. Officers say he was not wearing a seat-belt and sustained minor injuries.

During the investigation, an officer was notified that the hydrant, worth $2,500, was missing.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they witnessed the incident or the theft.
