The AA teams are in Williston for the AA Legion Baseball State Tournament. The Bismarck Governors finished the regular season in the middle of the pack and the move into this week as the number 5 seed.
Head Coach Mike Skytland says, "Well, I think we're ready for close games, which is kind of what tournament baseball is. Hopefully that is something that can be good for us, but, on the other hand, we're going to have to play some of those close games, and you never know how they're going to go. We hope we find ways to, you know, sneak across a couple runs and win a couple of those close games."
As they prepare for the state tournament, Skytland is pleased with how his boys have been playing. “It's kind of been one of those season's we've had a lot of close games, and i think that's indicative of the type of teams there are in the state. There's a lot of good teams. We've been able to find ways to win games, which, you know, is a good thing I think going forward, but it's just been a lot of close games, and really, that makes for some fun baseball."
And it should be some interesting baseball games, especially for their first game of the tournament. "Well, Grand Forks, the Keiler's kid that's going to pitch for them is really good. He's a left hander, and we've faced them here, and we're lucky enough to beat them 1-0. We expect another one of those types of games, it will definitely be a good challenge. They have a good team, a good pitcher on the mound, but our kids, they're ready for that challenge. They've played close games, I think they're confident, but they also know it's, they've got to be ready because it will be a good challenge."
The Govs play on Wednesday against Grand Forks in the first game of the day at 10:00 CT. The Roughriders have a match-up with Minot at 1:00 CT, and tomorrow the Mandan Chiefs will play Jamestown at 4:30 CT.
