BISMARCK, N.,D. - There's a new initiative to help newcomers to Bismarck get acquainted with the area.
Bismarck Beacon was started by the Downtown Business Association and Capital Credit Union as a way for new people to get socially "plugged-in" to the city.
The Beacon kicked off its first event by teaching people how to curl. Every event is meant to help people build rapport with others who have similar interests.
“If you don't find your friend group or your social group within maybe 18 months, it's going to be hard for us to keep you in Bismarck if we don't have a connection to the community. So, this is a great way to find friends and fun things to do," said COO of the Downtowners Kate Herzog.
Herzog says this program goes beyond socializing and can help with employee retention.
You can join the next event on Jan. 31 by registering on the Bismarck Beacon Facebook page.
