Bismarck City Commission looking for input on unified sign code

Bismarck City Commissioners are asking for guidance on a unified sign code.

City staff had recommended a time limit of 30 days per location for portable signs, but local businesses say that isn't long enough. The commission decided to wait for a public hearing before making a decision.

"I understand that some of these signs have been in some of these places for far too long. There has to be some regulation, there has to be some control over them, but for a city to tell you when you can and cannot market your business. I don't agree with that and I don't feel that these companies agree with that either," said Jordan Hauck, Here's Your Sign owner.

The ordinance goes before the planning and zoning commission on Sept. 25. It will go before the city commission again after that.
