The Bismarck Police Department says the Bismarck airport was evacuated Wednesday morning because of a fire alarm.

Bismarck Police Officer Pat Renz says an automated evacuation message went off in the airport with the sounds of the fire alarm.

Airport staff and the officer eventually determined that a generator in the baggage area had started the alarm.

Renz says an airport employee had difficulty starting the generator, causing a large amount of exhaust.

Police say passengers were evacuated for approximately five minutes while they found the source of the alarm.
