Bisman Bombshellz will be part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association for the first time
The Bisman Bombshellz, a local roller-derby team, are gearing up for their new season. The first full season where they will be part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, which they say is the roller derby version of the NBA.
New recruits are getting ready to join the team. Veterans told us why they enjoy the sport.
"I get to wear pads. I get to hit my friends. It's a great outlet for letting you cut loose a little bit." said Sara Frank, Ultra Violent.
The team holds these to give people a taste of what it's like and then give them the option to join the twelve week bootcamp. A skater told us why she wanted to join.
"I saw the movie whip it, and that sat in my head for a bit, and I was actually at the brew at the zoo and the Bombshellz had a booth there, and I had some ciders and they're like 'we take anybody' and I'm like 'I'm anybody' " said Kayla Schmidt, New Skater.
The Bombshellz are hopeful that joining the association will bring in new challenges for the team.
"We are a smaller team and we are from the Midwest, and it's kinda hard to get these better teams to travel to come see us, but now that we're ranked I think that's going to change a lot of things for us and open a lot of doors. " said Frank.
Their first game is scheduled for April 27 at the capital ice complex.
Another recruitment event for the Bombshellz will be held in the World War Memorial building at 6:30 pm on Feb. 20.
