BISMARCK, N.D. - In 2016, 88 bicyclists were injured and three killed in accidents in North Dakota, according to a Department of Transportation study.
ND Active Transportation Alliance, a nonprofit group that works to raise awareness for the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians, held a bike ride through Bismarck to help raise awareness before Share the Road Safety Week kicks off on Sunday.
"You see a lot of folks who are not paying attention while they are driving motor vehicles. Yet at the same time when you flip the coin if you will, bicyclists and pedestrians need to be safe. They need to be looking, paying attention, they need to be giving motorists the time they need to react and stop," said Justin Kristan, ND Active Transportation Alliance.
They are working with the DOT towards its vision for zero fatalities.
