Basin Electric laying off some employees due to financial reasons
Basin Electric Power Cooperative is laying off about 25 people across four of their Midwest locations, including two here in North Dakota, Dakota Gasification Company and Antelope Valley Station.
Basin has been looking at a cost containment strategy for the last year and a half, but officials with the company say recent financial forecasts show that more aggressive decisions needed to be made.
"At this time we forecast we need some additional efforts in that area. As part of this cost reduction effort, a small group of probationary employees in North Dakota and Wyoming were released this morning," said Curt Pearson, Basin Electric director of communications.
Basin says that this is a transitional phase, but the next step is seeing if any employees decide to transition within the company or decide to voluntarily leave.
