UPDATE: Williston barricaded subject name released

WILLISTON, N.D. - UPDATE: A domestic assault investigation by the Williston Police Department escalated into an incident that forced the lock down of several schools and tied up traffic in the 1600 block of 8th Avenue West.

Thirty-year old Mark Sveen barricaded himself inside a house. The victim was able to exit the residence and Sveen was eventually arrested.

Sveen was taken into custody on one or more outstanding warrants, and formal charges are pending.

Wilkinson Elementary, the District Office, Bakken Elementary and Williston Middle School were on lock down while the incident unfolded.


UPDATE (10:33 a.m.): Suspect has been taken into custody. More information will be available as the investigation continues.


UPDATE (10:07 a.m.): School lock-out has been lifted, but the scene is still active.


The Williston Police Department says a man has barricaded himself inside a house after a domestic disturbance early this morning.

The Negotiations team, Williams County SWAT, and police have the 1600 block of 8th Ave West blocked off, according to officers.

The police department says they originally responded to a domestic call around 6 a.m. when they found that the man barricaded himself.

Wilkinson Elementary, the District Office, Bakken Elementary and Williston Middle School are on lock-out. Nobody can come out and nobody can enter the buildings.
