The Bureau of Criminal Investigation's newest K9 officer Hex is dead after just two months on the job.
A BCI spokesperson says on Jan. 22, a veterinarian found heart problems, including a cancerous growth in a ventricle, in the two-year-old yellow lab.
The vet said the dog wasn't in pain, but would eventually faint due to poor blood flow.
Officers say he was enjoying the work.
Just more than a week later, on Jan. 31, Hex collapsed at the Fargo office after helping with a search warrant.
BCI leaders say they're working to get a replacement K9 at no cost to taxpayers.
