Audit of Washburn city finances reveals irregularities

WASHBURN, N.D. (Associated Press) - An audit of the City of Washburn's finances has highlighted problems.

State Auditor Josh Gallion said in a release that there were deficiencies in accounting practices that potentially violate state law.

Among the long list of infractions was failure to monitor special assessments, improper payouts to employees for unearned annual leave, improper fund transfers, and inadequate board approval of invoices.

Gallion said, though, that he was encouraged that the city was taking the report, and recommended changes, seriously.
