Thirty six residents were evacuated from the Ashley Medical Center after a fire this morning. No injuries have been reported and the fire was quickly contained. John Salling has more.
The Ashley Medical Center includes a hospital, nursing home, and clinic. A fire in the office area forced thirty five residents to be evacuated from the nursing home, and one patient from the hospital.
"We had about four school buses, we had about three ambulances, we had people coming in off of the street to help get people out of the hospital," said McIntosh Sheriff Laurie Spitzer.
Everyone was moved to an ambulance garage and from there to family homes and other facilities in the region.
"Community members and other facilities calling and asking what they can do. That's nice to see that much support cause that makes it all a little easier to handle," said Holly Wolff, Medical Center CEO.
Staff hope to reopen in a few days.
