MINOT, N.D. - Minot's flood protection plan just took one giant step forward Wednesday.

The U.S Army Corp of Engineers approved the permits for all phases of the Souris River Flood Protection project.

Park Construction out of Minneapolis is awarded construction of the first phase of the project for $43.5 million.

It is the largest and most expensive part of the plan, which includes construction of a giant floodwall along 4th Avenue NW, along with levees and a pump station.

Wagner Construction was awarded the bid for phases two and three for $35.7 million.

Construction of these phases are expected to begin in the spring.
