Every year wood carvers from across the country meet in Bismarck to compare their creations and this year was extra special.

The Flickertail Woodcarvers are celebrating 50 years of official wood carving. Some carve with hand tools and others use chainsaws.

One of their founding members, Clara Yonker says she always keeps a spoon created by the first club teacher as a connection to the past.

"Her heritage, her art, yes. All of these beautiful things that were made generations ago and they're still kept...this is one," said Flickertail Woodcarvers Founding Member, Clara Yonker.

In 1968, the Bismarck Parks and Rec sponsored the idea of a woodcarvers club and a year later the club became official.
