MINOT, N.D. - The winter storm caused the airport in Minot to shut down for most of Saturday.
Airport Director Rick Feltner chose to close off the airport around 4 a.m. Saturday morning, after the constant blowing snow made it impossible for crews to keep the runway clear for planes to take off and land.
Visibility has also been low for much of Saturday.
Feltner says it impacted about 10 flights total, and they hope to have the airport reopened for flights by 10 p.m. Saturday night.
“Combination of snow and wind has made it impossible for us to keep the friction on the runways where we need it, so we need to be able to have airplanes land safely and have a degree of confidence that they're not going to slide when they land,” said Feltner.
He says flyers should contact their airline for information on changed flights.
